Dr. Satz graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1983 and earned her master's and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale in 1989. She did her internship at Wyandotte Hospital in Michigan.
Dr. Satz began her training in a traditional form of therapy, thinking it was the most thorough approach to change. But she became disheartened as she watched people replay the same stories and acted out the same patterns over and over. This traditional approach to therapy may be interesting in theory, but in practice, she found that it was very slow, dark and painful for people. So she searched far and wide for new philosophies, perspectives and techniques that more quickly and more directly promote change. The result is not just transformation, but a process that is actually fascinating and enjoyable.
Dr. Satz is passionate about helping people be the best they can be. She believes that we unnecessarily limit ourselves because we don't know what else is possible. If we don't know another solution exists, it's as if it doesn't exist, even though it actually does; it's just waiting for us to discover it.
Dr. Satz's approach offers an ever-expanding view of what is going on and why it is happening, what can be learned and how to most skillfully deal with the experience at hand. The result is that we are able to liberate ourselves from old habits, give ourselves many more options and possibilities and live happier and more satisfying lives.
